Celta Vigo saw their attempts to cut the gap on leaders Deportivo hit when their match at bottom side Cartagena on Saturday was abandoned after a linesman was hit by a bottle thrown from the home crowd.

The game at el Almarjal was tied 1-1 when César David Escribano Pérez was felled by an object thrown from the supporters behind the Valencian official, later found to be a 33cl water bottle. Referee, Alfonso Pino Zamorano, subsequently took both sets of players from the field and the game was suspended. A number of objects had already been thrown onto the playing field by Cartagena fans before the incident.

Celta had taken the lead in just the third minute through Mario Bermejo, before the home side eventually levelled just after the break thanks to Toni Moral. The game was in the balance with both sides creating chances, when Pérez was hit on the hour mark leading to the premature end of the encounter.

Third placed Valladolid closed the gap on Celta to just one point after a comprehensive 4-0 victory at Xerez. Víctor Pérez’s 13th minute penalty broke the deadlock before Óscar doubled the away side’s lead ten minutes before the break. Valladolid were then awarded a second penalty, which was converted by Nauzet Alemán and Javi Guerra finished the scoring in the 65th minute.

Fourth-place Hércules came from behind twice to beat struggling Girona 4-2 at the Estadio José Rico Pérez. The Catalans took the lead after just five minutes, when Coro fired past Ismael Falcon in the Hercules goal. Urko Vera drew the home side level just past the hour mark, only for Coro to grab his, and Girona’s second, two minutes later. Juan Carlos Mandiá’s side immediately hit back however as Vera got his second to level the game within minutes of going behind. The home side then showed their class and a double from Felipe secured the points for the side from Alicante.

On Sunday, leaders Depor put last weeks shock defeat at Girona behind them to brush aside Real Murcia 3-1 at la Riazor.

The game began well for the visitors as Emilio Sanchez fired them into the lead after just eight minutes, his free kick being horribly misjudged by Aranzubia in the Depor goal. However, Depor hit back just past the half hour mark as Juan Valeron headed Andres Guardado’s cross past Murcia keeper, Alberto. Riki put the home side in front in the 65th minute before Lassad put the game beyond the reach of the visitors with 18 minutes remaining. Depor have now won 14 of their last 16 games and sit seven points clear at the top of the segunda table.

Elsewhere, Alcorcón moved back up to fifth after a 2-1 victory over Alcoyano at Santo Domingo, Gato putting the visitors in front before a double from Oriol Riera won it for the home side.

Córdoba slipped to sixth after falling to a 2-0 loss at the mini estadi against Barcelona B, who are now unbeaten in six games. The home side took the lead through the impressive Gerard Deulofeu in the 20th minute before Martí Riverola wrapped up the points five minutes from the break. There was some bad news for coach Eusebio Sacristain however, as Deulofeu was forced off the field ten minutes after scoring and will undergo scans on Tuesday.

Gimnastic edged closer to relegation after a 1-0 defeat at Sabadell, leaving them joint bottom with Cartagena, eight points from safety. Huesca beat Almería 1-0, Villarreal B overcame Elche 2-0, Recreativo enjoyed a 4-2 triumph over struggling Guadalajara and Las Palmas were held to a 1-1 home draw by Numancia.
