TORRES FOR FALCAO? NO WAY SAY SPANISH

Chelsea were linked with a €50 million transfer deal involving Fernando Torres and Atletico Madrid’s Radamel Falcao in last week’s British media, something which has now been picked up by Spanish sports paper, Marca.

Andres Villas-Boas was said to have lost patience with Torres, who has experienced a torrid time at Chelsea since joining from Liverpool last year, and the The Daily Star claimed the Portuguese coach had highlighted Falcao as the player he now wants at Stamford Bridge.

Falcao is one of the hottest strikers in world football at this time however and has scored 62 goals in 72 games, leading to doubts over any suggested deal for two strikers experiencing a stark contrast in form.

Marca, in a unusually understated manner for a publication noted for it’s sometimes outlandish opinions, point out that despite Torres being a one-time Atleti hero, the club are highly unlikely to want to swap him for a player of Falcao’s ability.

It looks as if Chelsea could be stuck with Fernando Torres at Stamford Bridge for a little while longer…
